The Department of Computer Applications organized a one day hands-on workshop on cyber security concepts held on 12th August 2023. Dr. Mrs. Meera Mayekar(Vice Principal), Mrs. Supriya Dessai(HOD of BCA), Mrs. Priya V. Nagvekar(Faculty In-charge) and Mr. Sachin D. Verlekar(Resource person) inaugurated the workshop.

The primary focus of the workshop was to educate us about the top 10 vulnerabilities listed in the Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) and provide practical insights into their exploitation. Resource person Mr. Sachin Verlekar began with a foundation in basic networking concepts, including protocols commonly used in computer communication. The workshop was designed to be hands-on and interactive, providing students with a deeper understanding of cyber security vulnerabilities and their potential consequences. Mr. Verlekar used practical examples and demonstrations throughout the session. He introduced students to a virtual environment using VMware Workstation and guided them in setting up essential tools such as Metasploit and Bee-Box. Through practical exercises, students were able to see how  vulnerabilities such as HTML injection, command injection, insecure doors, SQL injection , could be exploited by malicious actors to compromise the security of web applications. Mr. Sachin D. Verlekar also provided a text file containing a list of social links related to hacking and cyber security. These resources can serve as references for further exploration and learning.

This workshop proved to be a comprehensive and valuable learning experience. The workshops hands-on  approach and interactive session ensured active engagement and facilitated practical applications of the concepts learned.
